Introduction
Parish Media Ministry
this is prepared for all parish media ministers of every parish, that, after utilizing this book, will be empowered to use media for evangelization.
what does it take to utilize social media for evangelization?
what is the statement of the problem
the statement could only be deductive or inductive to prove something.
developing a parish social communications ministry, this is not just deductive but inductive. it seeks to create a feasible, practical, and working social communications team with members who are aware of thew language of the faith and are ready to transmit it to others.
to existence of soccom is media professional with a heavy tinge of the teachings of the church; but equipped with the technical know-how in mass communications. what elements are expected of a communications ministry and its ministers?
What elements or principles are needed?
In research, there are only two methods: inductive and deductive. for deductive, we start with time-tested principles, and come up to prove the theory correct or back it up. but in inductive, we need to run a series of tests in order to verify a theory on what is most probable.
an example of deductive is ecumenism in Vatican II, a must for the church. the answer is: we have just proven that ecumenism is an important reality in a church, yes, it is backed up by time-tested principles or no, no deeper principles.
an example of inductive is the question on the need for married deacons, is it really needed? the answer is verified as yes it is needed, or no, not needed.
let's do social communications, is it needed in the parish? yes, tapos na. are there principles present to back up the need to set up a parish soccom ministry? definitely, we just turn to the teachings of the church in social communications.
what then are the common principles that justify the existence of a soccom ministry? it's given by inter mirifica and the succeeding documents of the church.
do you want to prove that soccom compliments evangeli nunciandi? yes, this now becomes a thesis. and the answer is: soccom and evangelization are intimately linked. this is deductive study on the rationale of social communications in the work of evangelization, but after this now what?
relevance of the project
socom becomes an important ministry in the church. but according to surveys, the ministers are ill-equipped with social communications skills, financial capacity, and catechetical knoweldge of the faith. (who verified that these are important components of social communications ministry. again, it becomes a study on the determining the important components of a parish social communications ministry. one has to make a deductive study based on the teachings of the church. they also have to be verified in the parish whether indeed they are important or other elements come up according to the study. the parishes of a dioceses should be referred to, and the basic questions of social communications and evangelization are tackled. the study would be tested by the parish priests and 1 random parishioner who is considered a "sunday church goer". this will surface what is expected in a soccom ministry. this is actually inductive.
the principles laid down in communio et progressio should immediately be put in the context, now, utilizing the latest instrument of social communication, the social media (another limitation), in parishes, expected elements of a parish soccom ministry utilizing social media.
statement of the problem:
Setting up a module series for empowering parish soccom ministers in the field of social media in the Diocese of Pasig.
limitations
the modules are still not located here at this point. or a working module need to be presented and verified in a group for test of efficacy. whatever is lacking we still need to put into recommendation. these become the working paper and need to still be tested on what still is needed for this program. after conducting the test: determine what is needed and not needed. this will land in the recommendations.
